International Women in Engineering Day

International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) is an international awareness campaign which raises the profile of women in engineering and focuses attention on the amazing career opportunities available to women and girls in this exciting industry.

To mark INWED 2021, this year we are showcasing the work of the women at C-Capture who work in roles which are vital in supporting our diverse engineering team – Office Manager Helen O’Brien, and Financial Controller Louise Jones.

Helen O’Brien joined C-Capture as Office Manager in 2019, following 10 years’ experience in similar management roles. Helen’s work involves the overview of staff wellbeing and day to day running of the office, along with recruitment and onboarding – which this year involves an intake of 100% female graduate engineers.

Helen said, “I am massively proud to be part of a team that is developing a technology which will be crucial in the fight against climate change. My role may not directly involve technology development, but I know I play a key role in supporting the team who are making the improvements necessary to drive forward uptake of this important technology, which will drive down reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.

“Before joining C-Capture I was somewhat unaware of the impact of my own carbon footprint and the changes I could make, but now I am more conscious of how I can help reduce my own carbon footprint and also promote these ways to not only friends and family, but to anyone who will listen!”

Louise Jones joined C-Capture in 2020 as Financial Controller, she is a chartered accountant, qualifying with KPMG in 2005. Louise has an audit foundation with small companies to Plc businesses, and over 10 years transaction and M&A experience in utility and energy markets. Louise maintains the financial records of C-Capture and supports the business and directors in the delivery of their strategic plans.

Louise said, “It is exciting to be working in a climate change related industry at a time when government has set ambitious plans to address this issue, and companies around the world are committed to reducing their carbon footprint.

“As a relatively new company, finance plays an important supporting role managing C-Capture’s financial resources to deliver our technology from a mainly R&D organisation to a commercially successful business”.

C-Capture’s CEO Tom White said “The work Helen and Louise carry out in supporting the company and the technical teams is so important. Managing financial systems and resources, ensuring the office functions are well managed, and liaising between the company and all the organisations we work with enables the business to grow and the world’s best carbon capture technology to be developed”.
